Helmshore History.

The village is dominated by the
flat topped Musbury Tor, once the centre of the Earl of Lincolns Deer Park.
Dating from the early 14th.century,stretches of the ditch enclosure can
still be seen. Sighting of Deer in the area are still reported but it is an
increasingly rare event.
Helmshore owes its very existence to the damp hilly area, which was ideal
for the wool and cotton trades that grew with the Industrial Revolution.
This turned a family run cottage industry into the giant local employment
the new factories offered. With these factories came demand for homes for
the workers, the Mill owners constructed cottages for their employees and
thus Helmshore village was born anew.
