The hillsides around the Helmshore area are dotted
with ruins of former Farmhouses and other properties. Those around Grane
include the depopulated Grane village. The villages future was sealed with
the construction of the Ogden Reservoir. The properties around the water
were bought to enable a more hygienic catchment area.
Hartley House
Lower Ormerods was occupied from
around 1790 to 1899.At one time the property contained some 12 handlooms.
Along with Hartley House the property was doomed with the purchase of
surrounding land by Bury Corporation.
